Glori-jam Hat Society

GOOD MORNING HAT LOVERS!

Last night began a new episode in this hat's popularity.  By special request a new group has formed called the Glori-Jam Hat Society.  I would like to welcome anyone interested in joining the group to do so.

We are all about sharing our love for this hat and all our own versions of it.  Lots of friendship and good will in this group!

The picture above was the very first Glori-Jam Hat made.  I made a hat for a friend that was similar.  However it just didn't flow when making it and was difficult to understand and when finished was not what I wanted to say with my yarn and hook.  At the same time my great friend James Lee Kelley had written a beanie pattern that just flowed off the hook.  So I took his beanie cut the size down and added a great trim and brim.

Since then I have seen so many beautiful versions of this hat with the maker's personality added to it.  It has, in my friend Kathy Y's words "taken on a life of it's own".  So we will give this hat a group of it's own and see how it flies

I did try to leave a link but I am unable to do so on my tablet. Just search for us on Facebook!

Peace and happiness to all my crochet friends and future friends!

Rnd 16 through 31:   Work evenly around ( 1 sc in each stitch) 66 scs in                                         each row. Mark each round as you go.

At the end of row 31 make a sl st into the next 2 stitches and pull yarn through leaving a long tail to sew your brim to the hat.

This will fit an 18" head.

HAT BRIM

*****Turn and ch1 at end of each row. (NOT STATED) You will be working in the back loop only throughout.*****

Rnd 11:   *1 sc in first 3 sts, 2 scs in next st, 1 sc in next 4 sts* around, mark 54 sts.

Rnd 12:   Work 1 sc in each stitch around.  54 scs, mark.

Rnd 13:   * 1 sc in first 4 sts, 2 scs in next st, 1 sc in next 4 sts* around. 60 scs. mark.
Rnd 14:  Work 1 sc in each stitch around.  60 scs, mark.
Rnd 15:   *2 scs in first st, 1 sc in next 9 stitches* around.  66 scs mark.

**Changing color..holding 2 loops on last st in row yo second color and finish sc*** color change made. Do not cut your yarn but drah along the edge as you change colors.
With color A ch 12.
Row 1:  Working in top of ch, sc in top of each ch across.  11 scs in each row.
Row 2:   Sc in each st across, holding yarn tightly (do not cut) change color.
Do not let your color change leave a larger st or LIMP loop
                alongside the brim.
Row 3:   Sc in each st across. 11 scs
Row 4:   Sc in each st across, change color.   11 scs
REPEAT ROWS 3 AND 4 UNTIL YOUR BRIM MEASURES THE SAME AS YOUR HAT.  THEN CONTINUE WITH ROWS UNTIL YOU HAVE A 3" OVERLAP.  SO IF YOUR HAT IS 18" MAKE THE BRIM 21 " LONG.  BE SURE THE LAST COLOR IS NOT THE SAME AS THE FIRST!  LEAVE A LONG PIECE OF YARN TO GATHER BRIM AND CUT YOUR YARN.
WORKING ON THE SIDE THE COLOR CHANGES ARE MADE.  THREAD THE TAIL IN YOUR TAPESTRY NEEDLE.  LOOK AT EACH LITTLE HUMP YOUR COLORS MAKE, YOU WILL SEE 2 SMALL HOLES, THREAD THE TAIL THROUGH EACH SET AROUND.  PULL THE THREAD UNTIL IT GATHERS SLIGHTLY AND IS THE SAME SIZE AS THE HAT.  BE SURE OF SIZE, THIS IS CRITICAL TO THE FIT.  PULL THROUGH ONE TIME TO ANCHOR.  DO NOT TIE OFF TIGHTLY IN CASE YOU NEED TO EASE THE THREAD!   I made this mistake and had to remove the entire brim and start over with this process!! LEAVE A LONG TAIL AND CUT.
Thread your tapestry needle once again.  Join brim where you ended your hat.   Place the side of the brim with the color changes against your hat with right sides facing.  Whip stitch your brim to your hat.  Do not pull the stitches tightly as this will give your hat a buckled look, just nice and even.  Place your hat on a flat surface, the brim should flare out nicely.  If it does slst your brim piece together picking up the appropriate stitches to make it look like the rest of the brim.
BAND
With color of your choice ch 67, sl st together being sure not to twist.  Slip over the hat to see if it fits.  At this point add one or two sts or remove to fit to hat.  When you have your adjustment just right continue.
Row 1:  Ch 1, hdc in each ch around, mark this round, do not join.
Rows 2, 3, and 4:  hdc in back loop only around, marking at end of each round.  On round 4 sl st two times and finish off.
Thread your tapestry needle with opposite color than band.  Attach brim to hat stitching over the join and making sure your stitches are even around so they are attractive.  When sewn down finish off and weave in all ends.
ROLLED AFRICAN FLOWER
Chain 33
row1:  Dc in the 4th ch from hook, ch 1, 2 dc in same ch, skip 1 chain, in next ch *2 dc, ch1, 2 dc*, across entire chain.. 15 sets.  Turn
Row 2:  Sl st to first ch 1 space, ch 3, 6 dc in same space, *sl st in sp between sets, 7 dc in next ch 1 space*  across.  At the end sl st into the bottom ch to pull the flower petal down. Leave a long tail for sewing and cut yarn.
WITH CONTRASTING COLOR SC INTO EACH DC, SL ST TIGHTLY BETWEEN PETALS.
FOLD THE LAST 2 PETALS TOGETHER AND TACK DOWN.  ROLL THE REST OF THE PETALS TOGETHER,  USE THE TAIL YOU LEFT TO SEW TOGETHER. ATTACH YOUR FLOWER TO HAT, PLACING AT JOIN OF BRIM SO THAT THE FLOWER COVERS ANY FLAWS IN JOIN ;-).
DONE!

Dangling Pearls Headband

I designed this for one of my daughters.  It turned out great so I have plans to make more this spring!  I do hope you enjoy making it.  If you have any issues please feel free to let me know.

PLEASE READ ENTIRE PATTERN BEFORE BEGINNING!  THANK YOU  :-)

C hook and 1 ball of #3 thread

Ch 23
Special stitch is the extended double crochet.  Shown as EDC

I did test this but if you have trouble with watching the video just copy and paste.

WIDE HEADBAND:

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, * ch 3, 1 sc in next 2 chs* to end.  You should have 4 ch 3 loops, turn.

Row 2:  Ch 3, edc in next sc, *ch 3, edc in next 2 scs* to end.   Turn.

Row 3:  Ch 1, * 1 sc in next 2 edc, ch 3,  1 sc in next 2 edcs*, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3, ending with row 3 until it just fits around the head.  Do not cut thread!

( I am not giving any inches here because it stretches and does not fit like a hat!  So you need to measure the head it will fit.  If it overlaps too much your ties won't look right so stretch around the head comfortably. MIne measured 20" and stretched to 23" when done.)

Ties- you will have 4 on either end.

*Ch 50, turn, 12 dcs in the 3rd ch from hook, sl st up the ch until you reach the headband, sl st in next sc, sl st in next sc* and repeat to end.

For the other end attach your thread to the first ch you worked a sc in, repeat above, crocheting over your tail.  Finish off and weave in all ends.

I glued rhinestones and pearls in the circles.

NARROW HEADBAND:  EXACTLY THE SAME BUT BEGIN YOUR CHAIN WITH 18, THIS GIVES YOU A NARROWER HEADBAND.

THE PICTURE IS NOT MADE FROM #3 THREAD BUT FROM CORD SO YOU CANNOT GO BY IT.  I DID CROCHET BOTH THE WIDE AND NOT SO WIDE BANDS WITH THREAD AND C HOOK.  HAVE NO IDEA WHERE I GOT THE CORD!

Rolled African Flower

I love this flower and hope all of you do too.  It has only been made by 3 people so if you find any mistakes or have any questions please feel free to ask.  Happy hooking all and have a wonderfully blessed day!

The picture is done with 2 strands of fine yarn and a J hook. You can make it with worsted and a J, H, or I hook and use a fine yarn for the contrasting color which I did not put on this one.

Chain 33
(The more chs the bigger flower)

row1: Dc in the 4th ch from hook, ch 1, 2 dc in same ch, skip 1 chain, in next ch *2 dc, ch1, 2 dc*, across entire chain.. 15 sets. Turn

Row 2: Sl st to first ch 1 space, ch 3, 6 dc in same

space, *sl st in sp between sets, 7 dc in next ch 1 space* across. At the end sl st into the bottom ch to pull the flower petal down. Leave a long tail for sewing and cut yarn.

WIND THE FLOWER STARTING WITH THE LAST PETAL MADE BEING YOUR CENTER. USE THE TAIL YOU LEFT TO SEW TOGETHER.

WITH CONTRASTING COLOR SC OR SL ST AROUND

ENTIRE FLOWER. I WOULD PUT A SLST IN BETWEEN EACH PETAL. DONE.

THIS FLOWER IS ALMOST 6" ACROSS!
