LATTICE SHELL FLAPPER HAT

LATTICE SHELL FLAPPER HAT
by Gloria Clayton

The white hat is made with I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby.
The cream color is a cotton/acrylic blend that was a bag of mill ends so I cannot give any help with where to buy it.  The ornamentation on the bow and flower are old brooches.

Worsted weight yarn and an H hook
I used I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby for the white hat

NOTE: After round 1 if you count as you do the repeats they equal
the same amount of dcs as the round number....Rnd 7.....5 individual
dcs + 2 dcs in one dc equal 7! Also in the increases, you have the
one lonely beginning dc and the one lonely ending dc which will
make your first increase. You will work the last dc before the ch2
where it looks like there is a left over stitch. Always join in the first
dc, the ch 2 is not counted as a stitch but hides the gap in the
rounds! Magic Circle is optional you may make a ch 4 and sl st
together if you prefer to begin in that manner.

Make a magic circle

Rnd 1: Ch 2 in circle, (does not count as a st) 10 dcs in circle, sl st in top of 1st dc to join. (10 dcs)

Rnd 2: Ch2, dc in same st, 2dc in next 9 dcs, 1 dc behind the ch 2, sl st in top of 1st dc to join. (20 dcs)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, dc in same st, *1 dc in next dc, 2 dcs in next dc* repeat around, end with 1 dc behind the ch2, sl st in top of 1st dc to join. (30 dcs)

Rnd 4: Ch 2, dc in same st, *1 dc in next 2 dcs, 2 dcs in next dc* repeat around, end with 1 dc behind the ch 2, sl st in top of 1st dc to join. (40 dcs)

Rnd 5: Ch2, dc in same st, *1 dc in next 3 dcs, 2 dcs in next dc* repeat around, end with 1 dc behind the ch2, sl st in top of 1st dc to join. (50 dcs)

Rnd 6: Ch 2, dc in same st, *1 dc in next 4 dcs, 2 dcs in next dc* repeat around, end with 1 dc behind the ch2, sl st in top of 1st dc to join. (60 dcs)

Rnd 7: Ch 2, dc in same st, *1 dc in next 5 dcs, 2 dcs in next dc* repeat around, end with 1 dc behind the ch 2, sl st into top of 1st dc to join. (70 dcs) End of increases

LATTICE ROUNDS

Rnd 8: Ch1, sc in same st, ch1, sc in next dc, *ch 3, sk 3 dcs, sc in next dc, ch1, sc in next dc* around. Join in first sc with a sl st.

Rnd 9: Ch1, sc in ch 1 space *5 dcs in ch 3 loop, sc in ch 1 sp* repeat around. Join with a sl st in 1st sc.

Rnd 10: Sc in 2nd dc, ch1, sc in next dc, *ch3, sk 3 dcs, sc in next dc, ch1, sc in next dc * repeat around, sl st in 1st sc to join, ch1..14 shells in each row

Repeat rows 9 and 10 until you have 6 rounds of shells and 13 rounds total.

SINGLE FLOWER SIZE K HOOK

Magic ring to begin

Rnd 1: sl st in magic ring, ch 2, 10 hdc around, Pull tail gently to close center, join with sl st.

Rnd 2: ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st ,* ch 3, sc in next 2 st, sl st in next st* repeat 3 times. sl st to first sc. You should have 5 loops to begin your work in.

Rnd 3: sl st into first loop *hdc, dc, 4 trc, dc, hdc in same loop, place hook into beg ring and make a long sc* , repeat around from *, 5 petals total.

Rnd 4: in first petal, *sl in hdc, sc in dc, {ch 3, sc in top of trc, 4 times},sc in of dc, sl st in hdc* this makes the ruffle effect on your petal. Ch 1 repeat around until all petals are done. Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew onto hat.

BOW

RND 1: With a k hook make a magic circle, ch 3, dc 14 in circle. sl st to join

RND 2: ch3, 2 trc in next 6 dcs, in next dc make 2 dcs,2 trc in next6dcs, dc in last dc and join to top of ch 3 with a slst.

RND 3: *ch3 sl st to first trc* repeat to first dc, make a long sc between

the 2 dcs, ch 3 and

repeat * to * to next dc, make a long sc between dc and ch 3. sl st to join and finish off.

Pinch center together and use a brooch to fasten to hat or wrap center with yarn and fasten off....wish to thank Tammie Stapleton for the basic idea for this bow!

Mad for Hats!

I guess everyone knows I am hat crazy, but few know why.  From the time I was a baby my Auntie Lois would put some kind of hat, bow, band on my head.  I think being from the south, in those years, it was a given that you had a hat on! Especially for Sunday go to meetin'.  I think I must have been amazed and in awe of some of the fanciful hats all around me.

And so I find it necessary to make some of those awesome hats. Unless especially requested, I simply cannot leave a hat unadorned!

So today I simply give you a selection of a very few I have made the past year. Some I have written patterns for and hope to have them on my blog very soon!

Happy Thursday everyone!! And have a blessed day!

Another hat I designed especially for http://clickforbabies.org/.  We are coming down to the wire now and all hats are due October 1st.  My friends and I have a few made to donate.  Actually closing in on close to 200 mark I think.  Will definitely post a picture of the hat pile before I ship!  This hat is untested by anyone by me.  I have made 2 others with no problem but one never knows so if you find any problem at all feel free to comment and I will get back to you.  Happy crocheting all!!

I used a softer yarn...Red Heart Soft

Rnd 6 - Work in the same manner but beg with color B (A in rnds 7 & 9 ) which you will end rnd 5 with.

Repeat round 6 four (4) more times using the colors so that they are over each other.

Whichever color you make the bill with will be round 11.
