Stairway To Heaven Hat

I was asked to design a couple of feminine, lacy hats for Christmas presents.  This is one of them.  It is a very easy pattern to follow and looks very chic and complicated when finished.

The two I will make, should my yarn ever arrive, will have smaller and more flowers, pearls, and leaves. 

This hat is a woman or older teen size.  If you wish to make a small child size I would suggest going down to an F hook.

Materials:

G hook

DK weight yarn, I used Premier Ever Soft which is rated a worsted but is much thinner.  Sport weight is a great choice.

Tapestry needle to sew in tails.

Please note, each round is joined in the top of the beginning chain 3 with a slip stitch. This will not be noted at the end of each round but taken as a given.

The beginning chain 3 always counts as 1 dc.  The exception being round 2, beginning with a ch 4 which counts as 1 chain and 1 dc.

Where it states dc in same stitch it is always in the join where your ch 3 is.

Rnd 1:  Leave at least a 3 inch tail, make a magic circle, ch 3, 15 dcs in the MC, gently pull tail to close.  Join 

 

Rnd 2:  Ch 4, (this counts as 1ch and 1 dc) * 1 dc in next st, ch 1*. Join  16 dcs and 16 chs

 

Rnd 3:  Ch 3, dc in same st, ch1, * 2 dcs in next st, ch1* repeat around. Join

 

Rnd 4:  Ch 3, dc in next st, ch2, * 1 dc in next 2 sts, ch 2* repeat around. Join

 

Rnd 5:  Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next st, ch2, * 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, ch2* repeat around.  Join

 

Rnd 6:  Ch 3, dc in same st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, ch2, * 2 dcs in next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, ch 2* repeat around. Join

 

Rounds 7 thru 13:  Repeat round 6.

 

Try your hat on, if you require a longer hat repeat round 6. I always must add an extra row when using the G hook because I crochet tightly.  I usually jump to a size 7 hook which is not a common US hook.  Those using the Tulip Etimo hook sets will find they do have this hook and if you crochet very tightly you might want to go up a size.

 

BRIM

 

Rnd 1:  Ch1, hdc in joining, hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdcs in ch 2 sp, * 1 hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdcs in ch sp.   Join

 

Rnd 2:  Ch1, hdc in joining, and next 4 sts, 2 hdcs in next st, *hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdcs in next st* around.   Join

 

Rnd 3: Ch1, 1 hdc in each st around.

 

Rnd 4:  Ch1, hdc in joining, hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdcs in next st,  1 hdc in next 3 sts, * 1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdcs in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts.  Join

 

Rnd 5:  Repeat round 3.

 

Rnd 6:  Ch1, sc in joining, 1 sc in each st around. Join and sew in tails.

 

Embellishments

 

I ran ribbon through the last round and tied with a bow to the side.
